MMD created a logo and an extensive series of collateral materials for a new DC Public Schools initiative titled Cornerstones. Cornerstones are specific lessons within the curriculum designed to make learning more engaging and ensure equal access to quality education for all students. For the 2015-2016 school year, DCPS needed materials to introduce the concept to parents and the community.
The logo was designed to represent a burst of ideas and potential, inspired by on-field experiences that enhance learning. It visually conveys the dynamic and transformative nature of the Cornerstones initiative, showcasing how these lessons unlock new opportunities for students. The vibrant design embodies the excitement and possibility that Cornerstones bring to education.
Creating a library of versatile iconography was essential. Each icon represented a different subject area or opportunity, ensuring comprehensive visual coverage of the curriculum. The thoughtful design of the iconography ensured that it could be used across various mediums, providing consistency and flexibility in how the initiative was presented. This holistic approach to branding and design played a significant role in effectively introducing Cornerstones to the community and highlighting its importance in the DCPS curriculum.
The project received a 2016 American Graphic Design Award from GDUSA.
