Michael Marshall Wins SXSW People’s Choice “Say it Loud” Award

MMD is proud to announce our own Michael Marshall has won the SXSW People’s Choice Award as part of Say it Loud, an exhibit featuring the work of notable diverse architects and designers.

The “Say it Loud” exhibit was selected to be featured at SXSW this year, thanks to the work of Pascale Sablan, founder and executive director of Beyond the Built Environment, an organization that seeks to engage the community through architecture to advocate equitable, reflectively diverse environments. “During the SAY IT LOUD – SXSW Exhibition in Austin, Texas we welcomed visitors from all over the world to our exhibition and received over 1,450 votes for the People’s Choice,” said Sablan.

Michael’s work was selected to be included in the exhibit as part of a national call for submissions. He selected the University of the District of Columbia Student Center as his feature project. After the conclusion of SXSW, the exhibit will be also be featured at the Austin chapter of the American Institute of Architects through April.

As the People’s Choice award winner, Michael’s work will be featured on the Beyond the Built Environment website, and he will receive a 2109 People’s Choice Award certificate and $500 cash prize.

“It is a great honor to be featured alongside so many great architects doing important work across the country,” Marshall said. “I want to also personally thank Pascale, whose efforts to highlight the rich and diverse voices of our profession deserves praise and recognition.”
