Tuskegee University: Lincoln Memorial Anniversary Event

Tuskegee University: Lincoln Memorial Anniversary Event

Tuskegee University is a private, historically black university (HBCU) in Tuskegee Alabama. The university hired MMD to help promote its participation in a landmark event in the nation’s capital in May, 2022:  the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial’s Dedication. The Lincoln Memorial, one of our country’s most renowned monuments and symbol of the advancement of civil rights, was dedicated in 1922 to the memory of Abraham Lincoln, who believed in freedom for all people. At the original dedication ceremony Dr. Robert Moton, Tuskegee’s second president, addressed the crowd. In 2022, Tuskegee University President Dr. Charlene P. Morris was invited to speak at the historic event.

MMD was asked to develop a series of materials, including a logo, invitation package and print and digital assets, including social media graphics, to promote the event. As a premier institute of higher learning, Tuskegee’s mission has always been “service to people.” Tuskegee University embodies the core values of learning in the pursuit of opportunity, equality and justice. It was fitting that the Tuskegee community held a critical part of the story of the most beloved shrine in our nation’s capital. MMD was honored to create a memorable campaign that raised awareness of this historic event, and also engaged friends of the university community to participate with a call to “Be Part of History.”

Tuskegee used this milestone event to build awareness for its history and legacy. Over the past 135+ years since its founding by Booker T. Washington in 1881, Tuskegee University has become one of our nation’s most outstanding institutions of higher learning. Working with the Tuskegee marketing and internal creative team, MMD created a suite of materials to promote the event.  An elegant, refined design aesthetic, coupled with powerful messaging, set the tone for an occasion of historic significance.
