DC Mayor Muriel Bowser was joined by Deputy Mayor for Education Jennifer Niles and DCPS Principal Kortni Stafford to announce Reign: Empowering Young Women as Leaders, a multi-faceted initiative to support young women of color.
The DCPS team was seeking to design a logo to help brand Reign, which was launched with a conference in June 2016 with a series of workshops, titled “We the Girls.” Young women of color helped to create the tenets of the initiative by articulating the type of support they need to thrive. The client was seeking to create an identity that radiated confidence and pride.
MMD presented a number of designs which used powerful multi-cultural symbolism; the selected logo features a bright and vibrant palette, and strong, clean typography. The final logo concept landed on an abstraction of a crown. This design choice aims to empower, bolden, and inspire girls from across the district to strive for greatness, symbolizing their potential to achieve excellence and leadership.
