Octagon Museum Capital Campaign Website

Octagon Museum Capital Campaign Website

Tied to our nation’s history since 1799, The Octagon is located at 1799 New York Avenue in Washington, DC, and was designed by the first architect of the United States Capitol, William Thornton. Recognizing The Octagon’s national importance, the AIA established its national headquarters on-site in 1898 and restored the building as one of the country’s earliest preservation projects. Now owned by the Architects Foundation, The Octagon serves as a beacon in the Nation’s Capital for the Architects Foundation’s work as the philanthropic partner of the AIA to promote an inclusive profession. It is open to the public as a museum and exhibit space.

In 2023, MMD was hired by the Architects Foundation to help brand a new Capital Campaign and design a website to support campaign goals. MMD designed the website to educate visitors and serve as a call to action for architects, design professionals, builders, community activists, educators, political leaders, allied organizations and philanthropists to galvanize and support the effort.

MMD created the campaign logo, wrote the content for the site, and designed and  launched the site. According to the client: "We believe architects use the power of design to solve problems, transform lives, and create a better world…the Architects Foundation’s programs harness the irrepressible spirit of architects to support and empower a next-generation design community."

The website powerfully communicates campaign goals, which include: working together to create a more equitable future, promoting sustainable building practices, growing the profession by nurturing a diverse pipeline of future design leaders, and fostering a global community through inclusive design. With a renewed focus, The Octagon continues to inspire current and future architects. MMD’s efforts helped to raise awareness among key stakeholders who will be instrumental in ensuring a successful campaign.

The Architects Foundation’s capital campaign goal is to use the Octagon as a “beacon of community service” in support of its mission to forge the future, amplifying the role of architects to build sustainable, equitable and safe places to live, work and thrive.
