The Flamboyan Foundation hired MMD to produce an engaging video aimed at raising awareness for their REAL Family Engagement (RFE) initiative. This animated and illustrative video would serve as a powerful tool for Flamboyan to introduce the initiative, detail its objectives, and outline the advantages it offers to a range of key audiences. Before beginning the animation process, MMD meticulously crafted a storyboard in consultation with the client. This collaboration involved scripting assistance, voiceover/narration recording, and the strategic development of a compelling storytelling approach.
Guided by the belief that all children deserve the opportunity to live a fulfilling life, the Flamboyan Foundation works to ensure students most impacted by inequity are prepared to succeed in school and beyond. Educational inequity is a daily reality for many students in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and these inequities can, without intervention, lead to millions of young people exiting school each year unprepared to thrive in the years ahead. Flamboyan Foundation works to change that reality and needed more ways to share their tools to educators and families across the nation.
One of the primary goals was to represent diversity not only through individual characters but also in terms of family compositions. The emphasis was on demonstrating that RFE is tailored to address the challenges faced by modern families, as opposed to relying on outdated strategies commonly employed by most school systems today. This educational tool required a design solution that was equally bold and impassioned.
The underlying concept centers on interconnectedness, growth, and community. To bring this vision to life, the MMD design team harnessed the fusion of hand-drawn and 3D animation techniques, resulting in a dynamic world teeming with vivid colors and vibrancy. The emblematic triangles, previously used in their branding materials, take center stage, linking each scene together conceptually and symbolically uniting all the featured families. Vibrant colors make the characters stand out, while a subtle penciled-in aesthetic adds depth and context to various scenes. The end product is an engaging, informative, and entertaining aid for all of Flamboyan’s dedicated staff, and channels to bolster awareness of what the initiative can help school systems do for their student body.
