DCPS Equity Brand Identity

The DC Public Schools Equity team is dedicated to defining, understanding, and promoting equity to close opportunity gaps and challenge institutional bias. This initiative focuses on both adult and student-facing efforts to ensure that all students, especially those furthest from opportunity, receive the support, skills, and experiences necessary for their success. The team also works to embed equity as a core practice for all DCPS staff, partners, and stakeholders.

To enhance its mission and build awareness, the DCPS Equity Strategy and Programming team sought a distinctive logo and identity. MMD was chosen to develop this brand, working closely with the Equity team to translate their vision into a visual identity. The resulting logo features a dynamic, ribbon-like icon, symbolizing awareness and support. This ribbon is designed to appear fluid and evolving, reflecting the ongoing growth and progress of equity initiatives.

The vibrant color palette used in the logo incorporates hues associated with equity and engagement, creating a cohesive visual identity that complements the broader DCPS brand. This palette unites various sub-brands under a universal theme, ensuring consistency and resonance. MMD’s collaboration with the Equity leadership resulted in a logo that embodies the core values of the team and underscores its commitment to advancing equity across the district.
