DC Building Industry Association Brand Refresh

DC Building Industry Association Brand Refresh

For its 33rd Annual Achievement Awards Dinner, DCBIA aimed to do more than create an event-specific brand and launch a completely new organizational image. MMD was chosen for this transformative project thanks to its history of delivering high-quality work and its successful track record of collaboration with the organization over multiple years.

The brand identity refresh involved modernizing the logo, color palette, marketing materials, and more. The new logo played a crucial role in the awards marketing campaign, encapsulating DCBIA’s strategic initiatives and establishing a fresh image for the building industry of the nation’s capital.

A successful brand refresh strikes a delicate balance between preserving brand equity and introducing innovative elements. For DCBIA, it was essential to retain the signature brand blue and include clear references to Washington, DC, to ensure continuity and recognition. The redesigned logo features the DC star at its center, symbolizing DCBIA's commitment to local entrepreneurs. The band cutting through the star reflects the organization’s forward-thinking approach, while the bold Sans Serif typeface subtly nods to the Washington Monument. The logo was accompanied by updated typography, a fresh color palette, and the creation of bolder typography-centric marketing materials.

The collateral materials echoed this refreshed look, utilizing striking blues contrasted with white and black tones to create visually impactful designs. The minimalist color palette and well-placed typography resulted in evocative pieces. This new visual identity was prominently featured at the 33rd Annual Gala, and the strategic refresh was widely celebrated, becoming synonymous with DCBIA today.
