Michael Marshall Design (MMD) proposed an innovative design concept for the extension of Al Khalidiyah Mall, one of the most iconic and oldest commercial malls in Abu Dhabi Emirate. The proposed extension introduces an additional 283,222 sq. ft. of gross leasable area (GLA) distributed across the ground, first, and second floors. The design also includes two multistory parking structures, adding over 1,200 parking spaces to support the mall’s growing popularity.
Located in the historic Al Khalidiya district, this renowned mall is nestled amidst legendary landmarks such as Al-Hosn Palace and Al-Manhal Palace, both of which are visible from the mall's northern façade.
Design Concept:
The proposed design draws inspiration from the majestic Emirati hunting falcon, symbolizing grace and strength. The mall’s façade was designed to reflect the falcon’s soaring flight, spreading its wings over the golden dunes of the western region of the Emirate. The concept also features seven symbolic towers, representing the seven Emirates of the Union, which seamlessly integrate heritage with modern architectural innovation.
