Moda Optic Featured in 20/20 Magazine Article on Retail Strategies

Moda Optic, a luxury eyewear retail establishment in Maryland, was featured in a September 2017 article, titled “A Perfect Formula” in 20/20 Magazine. The article was part of the publication’s Retail Strategies series. 20/20 Magazine is the nation’s leading optical publication, highlighting fashion trends, new products and services and marketing activities for optical manufacturers and retailers.

The article featured an interview with Moda Optic owner Maria Maestros, who spoke about her vision for opening the store in 2008. She selected the location in Rockville, Maryland and hired Michael Marshall to create a space that treated eyewear “as works of art.”   The result is a space that is more reminiscent of a museum than a retail establishment.  The 1,200 square foot establishment features a small on-site finishing lab and a display gallery carefully designed to work with the way Maestros walks her clients through their available choices. “We wanted to make it an experience, not unlike visiting an art gallery,” commented Marshall.

The design strategy, and subsequent marketing campaign to target young professionals who are interested in the quality and distinction of high-end independent brands worked.  A robust marketing campaign using social media complimented an already strong referral network from physicians.

“The best feeling for us as a design firm is to go beyond simply creating a space. When we can help a client build a brand, and realize a dream, that is truly rewarding,” added Marshall.
