Michael Marshall Joins AIA Talk on Unconscious Bias

MMD’s Michael Marshall will be part of an AIA event on May 28 in Washington, DC, titled “Understanding Unconscious Bias.” The talk is part of the 2019 District Architecture Leadership Series. The event will feature opening remarks by Monica Oldham, Manager of Diversity and Inclusion with World Bank Group. A panel discussion will follow, moderated by Sarah Wingo, and featuring MMD’s Michael Marshall; Mariela Buendia-Corrochano, Design Director and Principal, Gensler; and Del Ruff, Senior Director of Workforce and Education, American Institute of Architects.

“I am honored to participate on this esteemed panel for this very important conversation,” said MMD’s Michael Marshall. “I commend the AIA and LAIDEA for spearheading this effort as part of this year’s Leadership Series.”

Event attendees will hear from the speakers about their experiences as leaders to promote an inclusive and diverse work environment.

After attending this course, participants will be able to: discuss strategies to eliminate unconscious biases during the interview process; explain how firms can encourage idea sharing among diverse groups of individuals; explore how personality preferences impact leadership and teamwork; and describe how firm leadership can help identify personal biases of team members and work to eliminate them in the workplace.
