Swann Street Apartments

Swann Street Apartments

The Swann Street apartment building is a small-scale, four-unit building in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. The residence is designed to replace a historic single-family home that was destroyed in a fire and then left deserted for years. The project was commissioned by family members of the owner at the time of the fire. The scope was to redevelop the property and find a design solution that was acceptable to the District’s Historic Preservation Regulatory Agency. The original three-story brick and wood frame structure was a bookend to a row of Civil War-era, two-story townhouses on this historic block. Michael Marshall Design developed several schemes with various ranges of aesthetics, from contemporary to historic replication; the latter was the final selection of the DC Office of Planning’s Historic Preservation Board.
