The DCPS Calendar is consistent. Through each iteration we’ve innovated on style, organization and helpful tools for readers, slowly improving as we go. But overall, the direction stayed the same. However, this year we went farther than we’ve ever had.

In years past the calendar has served as a practical tool for many readers; organization and accurate information coming center stage. Nonetheless, the calendars theme was never truly celebrated or utilized throughout the publication. Mainly consisting of disparate photography and a lack of narrative, the calendar failed to convey its underlying message accurately. When DCPS presented this year’s theme, LEGACY, MMD saw a worthwhile opportunity to take the calendar in a direction it’s never gone before.

MMD proposed a different approach: create a singular narrative throughout the calendar through the use of strategic high-quality photography and quotes to tie into the central theme of “Legacy.”

The result is a rich historical tapestry of students from across multiple generations coming together to inspire and guide the future. MMD arranged and prepared a shot list to perfectly capture each client provided quote. In addition, this year’s calendar included a new icon based legend to help students, families and teachers quickly identify dates that pertain to them. Lastly the use of bold accent colors and juxtaposed shapes give this year’s calendar a fresh new look.
