Chuck Brown, Washington, D.C.’s legendary “Godfather of Go-Go,” is remembered with a memorial and civic venue in the District’s Langdon Park. The initial design included an outdoor, open-air performance venue. The second, fulfilled design includes information profiling the life and career of Chuck Brown depicted in an interactive discography on aluminum panels. The custom, photo mosaic tile wall showcases Brown in a larger-than-life format. The circular plaza facilitates outdoor park recreation, and lawn seating and benches accommodate intimate outdoor performances. The park includes outdoor instrumental drums for children to play with.
The landscape design establishes an environment that captures the essence of this iconic musician with quintessential Washington, D.C. plantings of the region throughout the site, including Crepe Myrtle-Magnolia, Oak, Cypress, Cherry, Maple, Birch, Elm and Evergreen Trees, and a rain garden.
