Bethesda Renovation

Bethesda Renovation

The scope of this project was to expand the existing kitchen of a family home in Bethesda, Maryland, by adding a breakfast room to complete and connect an earlier family room addition. The expansion would also correct the first floor circulation pattern, allowing direct access between the kitchen and family room.

Originally a center hall colonial, the existing house had been modified over time. The client’s desire was to have a large open room to the garden, which led to a modern addition by Michael Marshall Design. Supported by load-bearing columns and beams, the roof afforded the opportunity for a glass façade wall to the garden. Additionally, a stucco wall was added along the shared driveway for privacy. The glass façade and the stucco walls give a sense of enclosure to the garden and frame the views from the kitchen.
