McLean Virginia Residence

Two historic buildings, a house and a church used during the Civil War for a community of African-Americans, were the starting points for this addition and renovation. The owner’s desire was to combine the historic structures with a new modern addition that would provide living, dining, and kitchen spaces and a new pavilion that would open to the expansive rear yard and terrace. The proposal also included the relocation of an existing barn that would act as storage on the property and also as a landscape feature at the end of the backyard vista.
