ARE-U provides educators with opportunities to engage in shared learning, build their capacity for antiracist leadership, and support efforts to improve the educational experiences of all students of color.
The vision of ARE-U is to create an empowered community of ARE-U champions who, through learning and commitment, create an environment in which opportunity gaps are eliminated and barriers to academic and social success are removed.
To create the brand identity, MMD took inspiration from the many beautiful streets of the nation’s capital, which also represent a colorful tapestry of multicultural journeys. The strong typography, bright color palette and iconic “U” mark represent the multidimensional experiences inherent in the public school system and the city at large.
MMD also helped craft the messaging, including the initiative’s core values. In addition to the logo, print and digital assets were created, as well as lapel pins, used for participants to wear and display their achievement of the initiative’s core curriculum.
