MMD’s Chrys Sbily Named a 2018 PRWeek “Champion of PR”

Michael Marshall Design’s Chrys Sbily has been named a 2018 Champion of PR by PRWeek. The national award celebrates women working in communications who “ensure results, exceed business goals and achieve creative excellence.” Chrys was recognized for her work in elevating the profile of the firm and also for growing the firm’s branding division. She was also honored for her contributions in advancing career opportunities for women.

As senior director, marketing, communications and branding for Michael Marshall Design, an architecture and design firm, Chrys manages strategic communications and runs the firm’s branding division. Her work has helped raise the profile of the small and diverse minority-owned design consultancy both in the nation’s capital and nationally as the firm continues to expand into additional markets. Firm principal and design director Michael Marshall said, “Without Chrys in our firm we would not have been able to achieve the recognition we have of a small design practice that competes against large firms in a higher arena of design commissions.”

“Throughout my career, I have been passionate about advancing the achievements of women, and to be recognized by PRWeek alongside women who are doing such extraordinary work is a great honor,” says Chrys Sbily. “I am grateful to my colleagues at MMD for nominating me; I am so fortunate to work with such talented and supportive friends who want every one of us to shine.”

Chrys’s fellow honorees include leaders from global brands, including KPMG, PayPal and Southwest Airlines, as well as executives from leading public relations firms such as Edelman and FleishmanHillard.  Chrys was recognized for her work elevating the profile of Michael Marshall Design in the media for its architecture projects, which include the new Entertainment and Sports Arena in D.C., the new Bread for the City headquarters and Audi Field, as well as previous work for The University of the District of Columbia and DC Public Schools. Additionally, her work in growing the firm’s branding division has resulted in new business with The Smithsonian Institution and Prince George’s Community College, and has greatly expanded opportunities with current clients. She has also helped the firm, formerly Marshall Moya Design, successfully complete a brand refresh and launch of a new identity and website.

Chrys was also honored for her passion in advancing the careers of women. She has served on the board of the D.C. Chapter of WISE (Women in Sports and Events) for more than ten years. The national organization works to provide networking opportunities for women and to raise awareness of the work that women are doing in the sports, event and entertainment industries. Previous to joining Michael Marshall Design she founded and still owns a branding consultancy that works with nonprofits.
